Joosung Park, D.C., M.D.
“Combining outstanding credentials with a caring staff to improve your health.”
Born and raised in South Korea, Joosung Park earned his Bachelor and Medical Doctor degrees at ChungAng University College of Medicine in Seoul.
After working at Hospitals in South Korea, and after much research, he discovered the practice of chiropractic that analyzes the neurological effects of slight misalignments in the human structure. He found the approach to be scientifically sound, left home and moved his growing family to commit the next 4 years to pursuing his Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree. (Summa Cum Laude, Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC).
Dr. Park is certified through the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners to practice chiropractic and is licensed in the state of Virginia. He uses Diversified, Gonstead, Activator Methods, Blair and Upper Cervical Specific techniques. He is also fluent in Korean.
What Is Chiropractic?
Many people know of chiropractic care and its effectiveness in treating and relieving back pain, neck pain and headaches. A conversation with Dr. Park can help give you a better understanding of chiropractic care but here is some basic information about chiropractic medicine.
Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts, and as a health-care discipline is based on the premise that good health care depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system. The spinal cord has 31 pairs of spinal nerves which exit from the spinal column. The most delicate and important organs of the nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) are encased in hard bony coverings composed of the skull and vertebrae.
The spine provides protection, mobility, and weight bearing support for our upright position. The spine offers protection to the delicate spinal nerves which exit from the spinal column. Irritation to the spinal nerves can occur when spinal biomechanics are compromised and not functioning properly.
The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury.
Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
Common musculoskeletal conditions treated:
- neck pain
- low back pain
- radiating pain and numbness into extremities
- headaches and migraines
- TM joint pain
- dizziness and vertigo
Chiropractors commonly treat all types of injuries and recognize the unique findings associated with each injury. We treat injuries that result in neck pain and low back pain, such as chronic neck pain, chronic low back pain, auto accidents, on-the-job accidents, and slip and fall accidents.
